About Us

Crafted in the Himalayas

The Spirit of Uttarakhand, Woven Into Every Thread

At Tantuk, we celebrate the art of textile craftsmanship—where traditional techniques meet contemporary design to create exquisite, sustainable products. Founded in 2011 by Pathik Chaudhary and Yojana Khanduri, both textile design graduates from the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design, Jaipur, we are committed to producing high-quality, handcrafted textiles that embody our passion for design, heritage, and sustainability. Our work is a reflection of the rich cultural traditions of India, infused with modern sensibilities that make each piece unique.

Our Journey

Tantuk was born from the confluence of two distinct yet complementary journeys. Pathik’s career began at Rangsutra, one of the leading organizations in the textile industry, where he gained invaluable insights into the workings of the corporate world and the intricacies of textile production. Meanwhile, Yojana, deeply inspired by her love for her home state of Uttarakhand, chose a path that took her back to her roots. She immersed herself in the region’s rich craft traditions, undertaking freelance textile projects while developing her own production line, blending her design sensibilities with local craftsmanship.

In 2011, as their paths crossed, the potential for collaboration became clear. Their shared vision and complementary skill sets led to the creation of Tantuk—an endeavor to blend their experiences and passions, with the goal of preserving traditional craft techniques while embracing innovation. Tantuk was born out of a desire to build something meaningful, where every piece not only tells a story but also makes a positive impact on the artisans and the environment.

The Essence of Our Name

The name “Tantuk” is derived from the Hindi word for anything made with fiber. It is a reflection of our commitment to working with diverse materials and techniques, allowing us to create without limitations. From handloom weaving to knitting, and from embroidery to intricate block printing, our creations embrace a broad spectrum of textile artistry. This flexibility is at the heart of our philosophy, enabling us to continually explore and innovate in the world of fiber-based crafts.

“Tantuk” is more than just a name; it is a tribute to the art of making with fibers, to the dedication of artisans who bring each creation to life, and to the spirit of craftsmanship that runs through every piece we create. The name encapsulates the vast range of techniques and the timeless quality that defines our work.

Our Craft

At Tantuk, we specialize in creating high-quality woolen textiles that combine the beauty of handloom weaving and hand knitting with a variety of traditional embellishment techniques. These include block printing, dabu printing, embroidery, crochet, applique, and beadwork—each technique deeply rooted in India’s textile heritage. By blending these age-old methods with modern design, we create textiles that are rich in texture, detail, and cultural significance.

Our product range is vast, designed to cater to different needs, occasions, and personal styles. From luxurious shawls, stoles, and scarves to cozy mufflers and capes, each product is crafted with care and attention to detail. Our outerwear collection—featuring stylish cardigans, jumpers, and jackets—offers both warmth and elegance, perfect for every season. For those seeking unique home décor, we also create handmade toys, bunting, and accessories that add a creative and playful touch to any space. Our children’s wearables, crafted with the same attention to quality and design, combine comfort with charm. Every piece we produce reflects our dedication to craftsmanship, quality, and sustainability.

Empowering Artisans

At the heart of Tantuk lies a deep commitment to the artisans who bring our designs to life. We work with a dedicated team of 75 artisans, including both men and women, many of whom are women from local communities. Our approach is rooted in the belief that meaningful work not only nurtures creativity but also empowers individuals. By providing regular, stable employment, we create a positive impact on the lives of artisans, ensuring they are given the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Many of the women artisans we work with face challenges such as family pressures, societal expectations, and limited access to professional opportunities. To address this, we have built a supportive and structured work environment that fosters skill development, confidence, and growth. Our training programs are designed to equip artisans with the technical skills they need while encouraging them to take ownership of their craft and express their creativity freely. By creating a nurturing space where artisans feel respected and valued, we help them achieve both personal and professional fulfillment.

Our Philosophy

Tantuk is more than just a design studio; it is a platform where creativity, sustainability, and tradition intersect. Our philosophy is simple yet profound: to create beautiful, high-quality textiles that celebrate the craftsmanship of artisans and preserve the traditions of Indian textiles, while embracing the possibilities of contemporary design.

We are committed to sustainability in every aspect of our work. From the materials we choose to the way we operate, we prioritize ethical production methods that minimize environmental impact and promote social responsibility. By collaborating closely with our artisans, we ensure that each piece we create is not only a work of art but also a product of conscious design. Our focus on sustainability extends beyond the products we create to the way we empower artisans, fostering an ecosystem that benefits both people and the planet.

At Tantuk, we view every creation as a story—a story of artistry, craftsmanship, and the intersection of tradition and innovation. We are proud of the work we do and the relationships we’ve built with our artisans, and we are committed to continuing this journey of growth, creativity, and empowerment. We invite you to join us in celebrating the beauty and craftsmanship of handmade textiles, where every piece tells a unique story and every artisan’s talent is honored.

Thank you for being part of the Tantuk journey. We are excited to share our creations with you and look forward to continuing to weave stories, preserve heritage, and create sustainable, beautiful textiles for years to come.
